Exciting news!
Jonathan Brown (JB) is the newest addition to our Advisory Board.
Jonathan Brown is ready to share his valuable insights and knowledge gained through his vast and varied experience as a business owner and successful entrepreneur in multiple industries including healthcare.
Growing up in a small New England town with a single mother and limited financial resources, the odds of his success seemed low for JB. Despite this, he was determined to push beyond his circumstances to excel. “Just tell me what I can’t do,” he would say as a cheeky child. It was his mindset that helped him connect to the problem-solving part of his brain and find creative solutions to life’s challenges and apply those throughout his career. JB firmly believes that his mindset is what led to his success – GRIT and creative thinking combined with a can-do spirit. Today, when JB faces challenges you’ll notice that twinkle in his eye and you know he is busy figuring out how he can do what others choose not to.
JB began his career in the medical industry – working in sales for various medical device and robotic surgery companies. Later on, he discovered his inner entrepreneur while working as a trouble-shooter on high-cost corporate issues. His more official induction to entrepreneurship started with the purchase of his first franchise – an electronics company. JB soon realized entrepreneurship was more challenging than he thought. His early entrepreneurial days taught him a number of expensive lessons, but that did not deter him and throughout his career, he has continued to found and manage numerous start-ups that he successfully exited.
According to JB, the most crucial lessons he has learned? 1) Success is not about the money, but about the impact one makes in the world; 2) Having self-awareness and understanding others is crucial; 3) Working with like-minded people that possess positive and trustworthy qualities helps preserve energy while aspiring to make a meaningful impact; and, 4) Always be willing to walk away from opportunities that do not align with personal goals.
Helping people with cognitive issues is a prospect JB finds meaningful – he, like so many of us, watched loved ones suffer from early cognitive decline. He knows first-hand the devastating impact these conditions can have. This personal passion coupled with his deep medical background, gives JB enthusiasm about NeuroReality’s potential to use AI/ML and XR to benefit society, especially the US where distances can be great and care can be costly. He believes that a shift towards telemedicine using wearables and devices will allow clinicians to provide high-quality care without being limited by time constraints or location.
One of JB’s first priorities is to help NeuroReality open its US office to address cognitive conditions such as ABI, Long-COVID, dementia, and ALS in North America. He believes, based on research and experience, that using XR and AI, under clinical supervision, not only makes therapies more affordable but also more accessible while achieving healthcare outcomes that are equivalent or superior to existing therapies. He notes that innovative solutions, such as Koji’s Quest, have the opportunity to have massive societal impacts – imagine helping someone’s mother prolong their mental capacity or helping a grandfather enjoy a few more years of independence before being placed in a care home. That is a success!
While JB is excited about the opportunities these new technologies deliver he acknowledges that as a father, husband and human being, there can be negative repercussions to the use of technology and expressed a slight apprehension about what life might look like in ten years. Nonetheless, JB believes that as long as a human being remains in the driver’s seat, we can ease a lot of human suffering with the aid of technology. JB expressed his pride in being American and his belief that unnecessary human suffering, especially in the US, can be reduced by deploying resources in intelligent ways.
We are delighted to welcome JB to the NeuroReality team! We are grateful for all that JB brings – his great attitude, vast experience, keen understanding of the US market, and a shared vision to positively impact the lives of millions of brain injury survivors and their families. Welcome, JB!
